Telemark Skiing
My daughter Jen, who is an ultra runner, said she would be interested in skiing uphill. I told her that if we skied up we had to ski down. So we decided that we needed to learn to telemark. We outfitted ourselves with used Telemark gear. We got Monarch Mountain uphill passes…
We signed up for a Friday Tele Clinic in January and then headed up the North Cottonwood Creek road to try out our skins…

Then we attended the Monarch Tele FESTIVUS so we could catch the tele vibe 😉

We’ve been practicing, trading off between Alpine (thats what Tele skiers call downhill skiing) and Tele.

And just for fun, here is the amazing Eleanor who at almost 4 has started skiing this year!

2013 Shoshone Lake, Yellowstone NP
July 29-31 Heart Lake to Shoshone Lake in Yellowstone National Park.
We put in for a backcountry permit for Shoshone Lake back in April so we could check out the Shoshone Geyser Basin which contains one of the highest concentrations of geysers in the world. It is loaded with hot springs and mudpots between the geyser basin and the lake.
Reservation #13-R0503 for 7 People, Travel by Non-Power Boat.Trailhead In: 8K3 (Lewis Lake Dock).Trailhead Out: 8K3 (Lewis Lake Dock).07/29 – 07/30 8Q4 (Moose Creek Point)
The Hayden Geologic Survey of 1872 confirmed the lake was in the Snake River drainage and named the lake Shoshone Lake based on the Indian name of the Snake River. The lake is accessible by water via Lewis Lake and the Lewis River channel. Like Yellowstone lake, it can be dangerous to paddle due to the common occurrence of very high winds in the afternoon causing large waves to build up. It is believed that Shoshone Lake may be the largest lake in the lower 48 states that cannot be reached by road.

September 18 1976, Longs Peak, Rocky Mountain National Park. We arrived at the parking lot after dark and slept in the open, next to the car. Backpacked to about tree line and dropped our packs. Then headed over the boulder field, through the keyhole, across the ledges and up the trough. With Bill and Leslie Allen
